NAIDOC Week: Lawson Dodd
Date Published: 3rd Jul 2025
Lawson Dodd is a Kaurna, Narungga, and Ngarrindjeri artist and graphic designer known for his culturally grounded and contemporary approach to visual storytelling. Drawing deeply from his First Nations heritage, Lawson blends traditional symbolism with modern design to create bold, meaningful works that speak to identity, culture, and connection to Country.
In 2022, Lawson was recognised as the NAIDOC SA Artist of the Year, an honour that highlights his creative impact and commitment to sharing First Nations perspectives through art and design. His portfolio includes branding, logo development, public art, and promotional materials, with recent projects for organisations such as Flinders University, Wear It Purple, and local councils across South Australia.
Proficient in both digital and hand-drawn techniques, Lawson’s work bridges generations, giving ancestral motifs new life through clean, contemporary composition. Each piece reflects not only his artistic talent but also his passion for storytelling and cultural integrity.
Lawson is currently open to commissions, collaborations, and creative projects that elevate First Nations voices, strengthen community connections, and bring culture to the forefront of visual design.
This NAIDOC Week, Lawson’s visual storytelling comes to life in Festival Tower's lobby with an installation featuring two of his works — Journey into the Heart of Knowledge and Digital Gathering. When viewed from either the left or right, the artworks come together to reveal a unified narrative.
